Breakthrough
Breakthrough is a diptych of paintings depicting a room splitting at the corner. Here the viewer is placed inside a mysterious dark room, where some light appears to be peeking through at a corner. This light comes from the space beyond the room, illuminating only a sliver of the environment at first (piece 1) but as the split opens further (piece 2) it reveals ambiguous objects which seem to have fallen from nowhere. This is because the space beyond the room, where all this light is coming from and possibly these other structures we are now confronted with, is still unable to be seen. What lies beyond the boundaries of this space? This series represents the long and disorienting process of demolishing restrictive structures of thought, and the ambiguity of what lies beyond those structures.
